Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed dental appliance that fills the space left by one or more missing teeth.

Bridging the gap left by missing teeth.

There are several types of bridges, and you and your dentist will discuss the best options for your particular case before the bridge is placed.

“Traditional" bridges are the most popular kind. They are most often made of porcelain fused to metal. Traditional bridges consist to two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth).

What does getting a fixed bridge involve?

A dental bridge procedure usually requires two or more appointments at our office. During the first appointment, the dentist will numb your mouth and the two anchoring teeth will be prepared for the crown by removing a portion of enamel from each.

Next, an impression will be made. This will be sent to a dental laboratory where the bridge itself will be fabricated.

A temporary bridge will be made for you to wear in the intervening weeks until your next appointment.

During the second bridge appointments, your permanent bridge will be ready for you. It will be carefully checked, adjusted, and cemented to achieve the right fit.

In some cases, the dentist may only temporarily cement the bridge to allow that pateint's teeth and gum tissue time to get used to the new bridge. Then the bridge will be permanently cemented at a later time.

During the final appointment, you will receive care instructions for your bridgeat the conclusion of the procedure.

Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits keep your new permanent bridge in good shape for many years to come.
